Oh this was the post.

Sam, you know me, i'll agree to disagree.

Fair play to Bruce, the players, for getting promotion, but Bruce has only rectified the mistake of relegation. LKets seee if he continues to correct his mistakes, and gets us playing consistently in this division.

K-Bek: I will try and answer as a Bruce-doubter who still stries to see the balanced view.

Steve Bruce has had IMMENSE pressure on him this season. Lesser men would have crumbled. He also stuck to his guns and got us promoted this way - he is nothing if not determined. His rugged style has enabled us to grasp three points where other teams ould have got one or even less (eg cardiff at St Andys.)

That said, I believe that if you asked the majority of fans in the Championship, they would want our backing, our team, but NOT our manager. You suggest Bruce had to play McSheff but that is because HE is unable to create a team where creativity comes from and through the middle of the park. HIs stubborn insistence on defensive football at all costs cost us a lot of points as well as securing them. Given that this is the same style of football that saw us fail so miserably last time, why will we suddenly succed now? Furthermore, was it not Bruce who spent money on the likes of Danns and then never payed them?

I am sorry, but I have little sympathy for the 'we only have one right back' argument when in the last couple of years Bruce has spent 3m on Jerome, 3m on Vine, 3m on Forssell, 1m on DJ Campbell and not one of them has been a regular goalscorer in that time! McSheff has done very well, but - just like Pennant - Bruce makes him the fulcrum of the team to such an extent that he is man-marked by other players, who can afford to double up as there is NOTHING creative to worry about in the centre.

Bruce still has the same qualities that enbaled him to do well, but from what I have seen this season, he is still an overly-defensive 'chequebook manager' who piles bad money after bad in order to strike gold.

I went to the Balti night at Blues a couple of weeks ago and this was the very point I made to SB.

But, I am chuffed he has us up and hope he goes onto bigger and better in the Prem with BCFC.

Solid spine of the team - Not conceding comes 1st...

And to be fair do we not have the best defence in the division? Have we not kept a record number of Clean Sheets for any Birmingham team in one season? We have been promoted? It's hard to argue with the guy.

I just said maybe we should of been more proactive against the lesser teams in the division.

I have kept faith throughout, however don’t feel the need for a told you so!! I’m just chuffed we did it… don’t need to pat my self on the back for supporting the team and manager of the club I love, some people lost faith after relegation others after Norwich game… I could see their points at the time and still can now! But my resolve stayed firm, and I am glad SB has got us straight back up!!

I think he made hard work of getting us promoted in what was a very poor division ....

I don't understand why people keep referring to the Championship as "a very poor division". Compared to what? The Premiership - well yes in terms of quality it is poorer but then in the Premiership teams have gazillions of pounds more than teams in the Championship. Is it poor compared to leagues 1 & 2 or the Conference? I don't think so. And remember well over half the teams in the Championship have been in the premiership previously (as have some teams residing in the lower leagues).
And at the end of the day you can only beat what's in front of you, which despite some obvious c**k ups we did more often than not (including a couple of Premiership teams along the way).
So let's cut SB a bit of slack, give him credit where it's due, celebrate our promotion, enjoy the summer, because sure as a wet bank holiday we'll have plenty of time to enjoy/worry/applaud/criticise etc etc come August.

:Blues: WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE ... SAY WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE :Blues:

It's the old Brummie syndrome that a fair few of our supporters suffer from. I think it is the biggest sign of weakness going, but it is a fact. It goes like this.

If a player comes to us ~ well he can't be any good can he or he wouldn't come to us?
If a manager stays with us ~ wll he's useless isn't he, otherwise he'd be managing elsewhere?
If we win something ~ well it's not a very good competitiion is it?
If we gain promotion after changing the whole squad ~ well that 's the minimum I would expect, we should have done better.
If we win 1-0 ~ well we should've scored far more
If we are after a player who someone rates quite highly ~ he wont choose to come to us?
etc etc etc

It is a constant drip feed of negative stances on everything to do with this club (and probably the rest of the lives these folk lead), that undermines just about everything about BCFC.

It seems at no stage will these knockers ever let reality interfere with their doom and gloom. They never seem to look at other clubs who have achioeved less than Blues and compare how Blues stand favourably against them. For instance these folk will go on all day about how Roy Keane has achieved far more than Bruce, but they will not refer to WBA in comparison, or Derby, or Wolves or for that matter Leeds.

It seems the only thing that keeps them going is to have a go at everything.

I am sure it is not particularly malicious, and I am sure it is mostly sub-concious reaction, but I am also sure they do not understand the damange they continually do to the club.

They are easy to spot, they do it all the time.

perhaps too many brummies are manic depressives- on second thought just forget the manic bit!!!!

We had a great defensive record this season but we had an experienced premiership back four against championship attacks.

The failure to create from centre midfield has been a huge weakness for several seasons.

Experienced Premiership back four?

Sadler?

Taylor? - Played some but not many?

I'll grant you, Jaidi, N'gotty and Kelly, but at the end of the season, two of those were playing out of position.

N'Gotty is useless.

He reminds me of me in Middle School, where we were told to hoof it to the corners.

I would keep Jaidi and kelly, get a first choice LB incase Sadler cant make the grade, and get in another CB

Granted Sadler didn't have much Prem experience, but he was technically an ex-prem player

Tiny played at prem level for blues & blackburn

Kelly, N'gotty & Jaidi all signed from prem clubs

... playing mostly against forwards who have never had & will never get a sniff at playing in the premiership...

oh, and just to be safe, two ex-prem defensive midfielders playing in front of them...

come on, it's hardly surprising that we had a good defensive record is it ?

i reckon we are all a bit guilty of thinking short term all the time especially in the heat of the moment such as straight after the easter games and then after just missing the title. i know i am. the prices i feel do not help one jot. people demand a lot more when they feel they are shelling out all the time. if we stand back and look at the bigger picture blues have been promoted to the top division of english football about 5 times since the war and bruce has done it twice now that can't be a bad record.

bruce has got us up twice in 5 years.
the current board have got us up twice in about 15 years.

hold that thought...

i heard a derbyshire cricket fan yesterday muttering about how bruce is always just one game away from the sack. now i thought at first well that's true of all managers, but then realise that this is what people now associate with blues the fans and the board.

now i reckon and have done for a lot of the time that it is the board and not the manager that is responsible for all this negativity, alienating the fans, making us feel that we are being tossed from side to side, from one extreme to the other, having to put up with false dawns/promises

maybe that is part of being a blues fan. i agree with many of my freinds that bruce is no tactical genius and have elaborated previously on this, maybe i have gone too far in calling for a change but with all the thrashing about, the comings and goings of players this summer, maybe some stability is needed

You are spot on with 1 thing there mate.

THe board are responsib;e for a lot more than they are given criticism for. Bruce has done a great job with what he has but at times they've done very little to help the situation.

Look back just 4 months to January. We actually finished the month with a smaller squad than when it started. The board decided yet again there wouldn't be any new signings and Sullivan sold Upson from under us with no chnce of finding a replacement.

If you look at what Bruce has achieved with the restraints they have put onto him he has done tremendously well.

No signings in the last 3 January windows show's us what ambition the board have had in the past.

Bruce's comments since promotion speak volumes. only today he says we need strengthening all over the pitch and he is 100% right. We can only truly judge the manager if the board do as much as is humanly possible for them. Players have been played put of position out of necessity. We don't have a replacement RB for Kelly, a replacement LB for Sadler, a replacement winger for McShffrey or a replcement winger for Larsson. When these players are unavailable for whatever reason other have to fill in and they have to nplay out of position.

This summer I would like to see this situation being rectified and again in January.

Dearest K-Bek,
honestly.
Do you really believe that players have been played out-of-position because of necessity? Honestly?
Even when we've had the correct players sitting on the bench, we played 4-5-1 at home, out of necessity?
We had Heskey named as a sub and announced as a sub, when he wasn't even in the same City the match was being played?
We made mistakes in purchases and yet that wasn't realised until after relegation? Its not like we could have dumped the high waged players and brought in the kids to shame them? Even if they didn't improve results it might have been an incentive to the high earmers to make an effort. But we didn't.

Your husband got his wish-list. He picked them, he played them. He ignored the reserves and acadamy. He organised the and he decide d tactics.

Now, all of a sudden, we are not making the same mistakes again. He says.

Brilliant.
Sullivan says we are going to pay silly money for the high earners.
Karren says we are going to compete for transfers.
Bruce says ...what does he say.

The most telling thing about him is his incompetance.
Before next week's board meeting when Bruce said he will know how much he has to spend and all that. Before that meeting he has announced that we can't afford Andy Cole.

:LMAO:

What a manager. He is the 'trigger' of managers.
Without a clue and without a clue.

Sorry K-bek, dear, but this board has subsidised Bruce for long enough, it is time for them to get a grip. If they have ambition, then get a manager that is equal and qualified for that ambition.

Not a bumbler and a bloke who lets the cat out of the bag all the time.

:D

I
TOLD
YOU
SO

This time last year I said Bruce was the best man for the job of getting us back up.

After the Norwich game I stood by him and said he would do it.

After the fall away after Christmas I still said we'd do it.

After we lst over easter I still held faith.

And now...

I am off up Town to join in the celebrations because I was right. All along I was right and we have been promoted automatically back to the Premiership after just 1 season away.

Well done Bruce, well done to every player who has made a contribution, well Done Damien Johnson for not letting the boo boys affct the whole season.

WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE

PS
Don't bother posting about imediate relegation and the need for a new manager now. Its bow locks. We need massive investment into this team just to be able to tread water. We have fallen well behind clubs like Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and others we were competing with before but that can be rectified with real spending and investment.

If your going to try and be cocky, be right aswell.

I reckon most of us could have got that squad promoted.

Are you saying we aimed to get promoted?? Rubbish.

We should aim to win the league. You cant say to the players, "right we are aiming to get promoted".

Its like Rafa Benitez telling his squad they are going for 3rd Spot.

Total garbage. Bruce is not right until he keeps us in the Premiership next year.

End of.

Bit of positivity never hurt anyone.

Give the bloke a break. The current Premiership season isn't over yet.

Our success or failure next season depends heavily on who we sign in the summer. The board will play a massive part in that. It is one thing saying now that money will be available but it's a different thing altogether actually spending it. we have missed out on plyers so often in the past. We've had offers accepted for some very decent players in the past and have been turned down when it comes to wages. while Iwill never want them to be stupid and pay silly wages, the fact that they've already said they can't afford Portsmouth's pensioner reserve striker (with a record second to none) speaks volumes. Now, if they go out and spend that money wisely and attract some top players at the right age we'll be fine.

The board will play just as big a part in what happens next season by their actions over the coming months before August as the manager will once the season starts.
